Chapel Farm Swan Valley - About Chapel Farm

About Us

History

Why Chapel Farm? Well, the first family to settle here more than 100 years ago arrived from Ireland, leaving behind their family home [Chapel Farm], so, wanting a little reminder of their distant past as they sewed new roots, they named the property in its honour.

Before being purchased as a run down restaurant, Chapel Farm operated as a private horse training facility, hence the old mews stables. Since taking the reigns in 2000, Darren Walker has transformed the property into the multi-faceted establishment that it is today.

Armed only with gutsy determination and a strong vision, Walker set about extending the restaurant with old timbers from Midland railway to create three distinct dining areas. He then landscaped the gardens and built a lake with a waterfall. Walker then transformed the remnants of the old stables into a quirky adult retreat, known as Chapel Farm Getaways.

After a brief respite, Walker tackled the old Victorian homestead, converting it into a quirky Tap House known to the locals as, The Tap. He went on to pave new paths, sew new gardens and he event built toilets inside a water tank!

Fast forward into 2020 and we now have a third bar, are gypsy brewing our own beer and have a function room and a distillery on the way!

Our philosophy? We’re not sure we’ve got one. But in general you’ll find us cool, calm and not altogether collected. We do believe in good food, a great atmosphere and an even better service.

To See & Do

Firstly, you cannot miss the 100 year old Sugar Gum tree presiding beautifully at the front of our property, providing a grand umbrella to the old Victorian Homestead.

Retaining all original features, the Victorian house has now been converted into a tap house and tapas bar with verandah and private garden from which to enjoy a beer, wine or cocktail.

A stroll around our property will reveal our waterfalls and lake, our resident Alpacas, ducks, hundreds of native plants and trees and more than 130 rose bushes, all playing their part in our rustic Australian setting.

The property is also littered with numerous original art pieces, from the Getaways’ gardens, to the tap house gallery. Admire, laugh or even buy!

You might even consider walking off lunch by taking a stroll through the gates and the vines to neighbouring Jane Brook and Garbin Estate Wineries for a spot of tasting, continuing on to Gomboc Gallery for a further assortment of eclectic art. So much to do!
